The Ontario Indigenous Youth Partnership Project (OIYPP), on MakeWay’s shared platform, has a strong record of supporting Indigenous youth-led initiatives across Ontario. From 2019 to 2022, we funded 51 projects, distributing $233,574 to youth driving change in their communities.

In 2025, we relaunched our Makakikedaa Grant, meaning “Let’s build a basket,” reflecting learning, sharing, and reciprocity. That year, 58 applications came forward, the highest in our history. Our Youth Advisory Council funded 22 projects, distributing $116,199, though many did not receive full amounts.

This success highlights a clear call to action from Indigenous youth across Ontario. Twenty-three Indigenous youth -led projects plus partial funding gaps represented $249,709 in unmet requested support.

With your partnership and increased access to wealth; we can meet this need, expanding funding, mentorship, and capacity to empower youth to lead initiatives in culture, language, land-based learning, and wellness, strengthening communities and shaping self-determined futures for generations to come.

We promote reciprocal relationships between
Indigenous youth and a community of support
including: individuals, organizations and funders.

OIYPP's goal is to create a community of celebrated Indigenous youth leading work that responds to the dynamic needs and priorities of their communities.
This work is done in partnership with a network of individuals, organizations and funders who all share a commitment to the values of OIYPP.

Since 2015, we have achieved this in three ways:

Providing direct financial, mentorship and capacity support to indigenous youth to explore and execute their own ideas.

Building reciprocal relationships between Indigenous youth and a community of support including individuals, organizations and funders.

Increasing awareness amongst the sector of philanthropy’s on-going role in colonization and in response pushing for change according to our learnings and values.

The partnership is deeply rooted in reciprocity and shared ownership focusing on mutual learning experiences to build strong, equal and lasting relationships between everyone involved.

The Ontario Indigenous Youth Partnership Project is a project on MakeWay's shared platform, which provides operational support, governance and charitable expertise for changemakers.
